The scenic southern road from the oldest medina to the great dunes, through the Middle Atlas and the Ziz Valley.
Why start in Fez?
Fez is closer to the Erg Chebbi dunes than Marrakech and the drive is gorgeous: alpine Ifrane, the cedar forests and monkeys of Azrou, and the palm-lined Ziz Valley. Many travellers do Fez to the desert, then continue one-way to Marrakech.
How long does it take?
A comfortable full day (around 7–8 hours with stops) to reach the dunes in time for the sunset camel trek. We break the drive with plenty of photo stops.
